IMMERSIVE MARINE EXPERIENCES
About Apollo Marine Park
Apollo Marine Park covers an ecologically rich and beautiful marine environment in South-east Australia’s Great Southern Reef. Sponge garden habitats support thriving communities of fish, lobsters, octopus, seals and many other animals throughout the park.

Unfortunately, most people don’t know much about these incredible ecosystems or the animals that live there because they are in cold deep water and hard to access. We collected new scientific data from Apollo Marine Park to help better understand this environment.
Using seabed maps and biological survey data, we have created a virtual reality sponge garden, augmented reality landscape, and this interactive website, to help you explore deep beneath the waves of Apollo Marine Park.

Building connection, understanding and value through immersive experiences

We have recreated an underwater world from scientific data!
Using data from mapping the seafloor and surveys of animals that live there, we’ve created three marine experiences to help you access and understand Apollo Marine Park’s amazing environment. These experiences include:
This Interactive website - Explore the seafloor, see videos of sponge gardens and animals, and learn about the history of Apollo Marine Park.

Apollo Marine Park: Sponge Garden VR - Virtual reality experience (see 360 video here), and available as immersive and interactive experiences that are accessible at dedicated and roaming installations in Victoria (e.g. festivals, Deakin Gallery). You can check out the experiences here!
Apollo Marine Park: Beneath the Waves AR - Augmented reality experiences that include 3D replicas of the South-East Marine parks, combined with dynamic, user-controlled virtual overlays that allow visitors to visualise and navigate within the landscape, and self-direct their engagement and learning.
